“The Earth laughs in flowers”
Some restful meditations on the beauty of flowers – chosen from Youtube by Zen Moments
“If we could see the miracle of a single flower clearly, our whole life would change.” – Buddhist Saying.
“Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.”
“Nobody sees a flower — really — it is so small it takes time — we haven’t time — and to see takes time, like to have a friend takes time.” –
Georgia O’Keefe
“The Earth laughs in flowers.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Quotes from Georgia O’Keefe:
• Making your unknown, known is the important thing.
• I have things in my head that are not like what anyone has taught me — shapes and ideas so near to me — so natural to my way of being and thinking that it hasn’t occurred to me to put them down. I decided to start anew, to strip away what I had been taught.
• I know I cannot paint a flower… but maybe in terms of paint color I can convey to you my experience of the flower or the experience that makes the flower of significance to me at that particular time.
• When you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it’s your world for the moment. I want to give that world to someone else. Most people in the city rush around so, they have no time to look at a flower. I want them to see it whether they want to or not.
• Isn’t it enough just to express yourself?
• Slits in nothingness are not very easy to paint.
• I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life — and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.
I am placing my Facebook comment here in case you don’t see it on my page. I was very moved by your kindness (birthday wishes) and these flower videos. So so magical. The first one brings tears to my eyes. I think I will post about the story I’ve written below. Thank you soooooooo much for inspiring me to remember it.

Heeey Alan and Vanessa!! What a joy to see you here. Oooooh, I am just watching the time lapse rose and it moves me to tears. Do you know when I lived in the subtropics of Australia I could sit and literally watch gourd tendrils grow. One has to be very very patient and slip into a timeless state. And you have to put an object ( like a stick) a little ways away from the end of the tendril and then empty your mind of all thought and you can not only FEEL the intelligence of the tendril but you can SEE it moving toward the object you place in front of it. I will never forget when I did that. We think plants aren’t truly as alive as we are because they don’t move as fast as we do. But I have found them to be exceedingly intelligent and profoundly healing. Thank you both for ALL your kindness and support. You are a blessing. Love, Robin
Wow – what a beautiful experience! Thank you so much, Robin for your wonderfully vivid description – it’s lovely to share your bright enthusiasm. We are in the depths of winter now, and it feels as if the natural world is quietly resting – gathering strength for the spring to come. Peace and love to you.
